The second year of running after childbirth

1. October 2021

My second season in the run is slowly coming to an end, so I decided to describe my progress after almost two years of running after childbirth. My article on the topic: the first year of the run after childbirth has already been written in detail, so I will focus only on the current year 2021. This year was better than I expected, and in my head I set really achievable tempos for running at 5 km and 10 km, which gradually moved on when I reached them. I did not run the first 10 km in the race until this year in May, until then I tried to accelerate only in training in a regular tempo run. At the end of 2020, I had a big problem running 10 km in less than 50 minutes, so I didn’t dare to race in this length, it seemed slow to me.

Here I present the times from road races, comparisons and progress, these are always the same routes in Prague.

  • 11/1/2020 – 5 km in 22:30
  • 3/28/2021 – 5 km in 21:22
  • 7/28/2021 – 5 km in 20:44 (current PB)
  • 5/26/2021 – 10 km in 43:28
  • 9/29/2021 – 10 km in 42:24 (current PB)

And what does my training look like? I have been running 5 times a week since January 2021 and every month it is a total of 200 km plus or minus. From January to the end of September, I ran over 1800 km. Once a week I do intervals on the track or run uphill and once a week I also include speed running. The rest of the days I run slowly in peace so I can talk to someone about it. I try to change routes, terrain and mileage. And in addition to running twice a week, I exercise with my own weight and also strengthen the core. I use various exercise aids such as TRX, strength bands, gymnastic ball, overball and others and I train either at home or on the workout playground. Of course, my almost two-year-old son assists me with that. I don’t have babysitting, only my husband is after work with his son so that I can run alone. Then I solve it with the child in such a way that if he falls asleep in a pram, I run on the track or on a cycle path with a pram. I work with the conditions I have and even that can be managed. The weekly run is based on a total of 4 and a half hours, it’s not that much and an hour or two a week is based on strengthening. I’m just a hobby runner and the world champion will never be me, I’m not driving kilometers, I’m trying to make the best use of the time I have to speed up my pace to 5 km and 10 km. For me, running is not the most important activity, it is just a part of my lifestyle, just a nipple. In the first place is my family and our common hobbies, self-education, work and then running. My main goal is to stay healthy and be at least as fit as now, regardless of whether I accelerate or not.
